A website is AI-ready when ChatGPT and other AI answer engines can read it, understand what you do, and trust you enough to put your name in front of a buyer who’s asking for a recommendation.
“AI-ready” is the plain name for whether your site is built to be used by AI, before you even get to the question of whether AI actually picks you.
Why does it matter if my site is AI-ready?
Because your customers now ask AI who to hire, and AI can only name a business it can read and trust. For years, “is my site any good?” meant: does it look nice, and does it rank on Google? Now a third question matters as much. A buyer asks an AI assistant “who’s the best plumber near me?” or “which bookkeeper should I use?”, and the AI reads the web and hands back a name or two.
If AI can’t read your site, can’t tell what you do, or has no reason to trust you, you’re not in that answer. Being findable isn’t enough any more; you have to be usable by the machine writing the recommendation. If you’re already being left out, our guide to why your business isn’t showing up in AI answers covers the five usual reasons.
What makes a site AI-ready?
Three plain questions:
- Can AI read you? Your key facts have to be real text that a crawler (the program an AI company sends to read pages) can reach: not inside an image, not stuck behind a script that only runs in a browser.
- Can AI understand you? What you do, where you do it and who you serve should be stated clearly and the same way everywhere you appear. Mixed or missing facts make AI hesitate, and a hesitant AI names someone else.
- Can AI trust you? Licenses, reviews, real results and mentions from around the web tell AI you’re a safe recommendation. Trust is what turns “I could name them” into “I’ll name them.”
AIFSO, our method, turns these into the checks in our report, so “is my site AI-ready?” stops being a gut feeling and becomes something you can check and fix.
Does AI-ready mean AI will recommend me?
No. Being AI-ready is the foundation; getting named is the outcome.
- AI-ready means your site is built so AI can read, understand and trust you. It’s fully in your control.
- Getting named depends on that foundation plus how much proof you’ve earned in your market. That’s what the paid AI True Score Full Report tests: it asks the questions your buyers ask, on every engine in our report, and shows who each one names.
Being AI-ready can’t guarantee that AI picks you, and no one can promise that. But not being AI-ready makes it very unlikely. Readiness removes the reasons for AI to leave you out.
How can I tell if my site is AI-ready?
Three tests you can do in a few minutes tell you the direction.
The highlight test
If you can’t select a fact with your cursor, it’s inside a picture, and AI probably can’t read it either.
The fix: Try to highlight your business name, phone number and list of services on your homepage. Anything you can't select, retype as real text on the page.
The consistency test
Your name, address, phone and what you do should match across your site, your Google profile and your directory listings. Small mismatches make AI unsure which “you” to trust.
The fix: Put your site, your Google Business Profile and one review site side by side. Wherever the name, phone number or hours differ, change them so all three match.
The answer test
Your site should plainly answer the questions a buyer asks, such as what you do, where, and how to get started, in clear text near the top of the page.
The fix: Read the first two sentences of your homepage as a stranger would. If they don't say your trade, your towns and how to reach you, rewrite them so they do.
For a fuller read, the free AI True Score Glimpse asks AI real buyer questions and shows whether it names you, who it names instead, and your first fix.
The bottom line
No one can promise AI will name your business, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What being AI-ready gets you is different and more useful: you remove every technical and trust reason for AI to skip you, so when a buyer asks, you’re a candidate instead of an invisible one.
Start with the three tests above, then run the free Glimpse to see what AI says today.
